Hissco International has appointed Steve Revell as its new Senior Vice President for the UK and EU, marking a major addition to its leadership team. With over 30 years of experience in the security screening sector, Revell brings a wealth of industry knowledge and strategic insight to the role.
Revell began his career at EG&G Astrophysics, which later evolved into Perkin Elmer, and then L3. His background also includes a stint in trace detection with Ion Track Instruments, followed by nearly two decades at Rapiscan Systems.

“Over the years, I’ve witnessed the transformation of our industry,” said Revell. “Many companies have expanded rapidly, often through acquisition, but growth doesn’t always equal progress. In some cases, the core of x-ray screening has been diluted or marginalised within large, complex structures.”
That shift, according to Revell, led him to seek out a company where conventional x-ray screening remains central to the mission. “To truly innovate and lead, I needed to be somewhere that places x-ray at the heart of its business. That’s exactly what I’ve found at Hissco International.”
A Natural Fit
Revell’s decision to join Hissco was influenced not only by the company’s focus but also by long-standing professional relationships. “I’ve known Hissco’s founder for most of my career, and worked closely with Andy Hudson, the Group President, for years. Their consistent focus on engineering-led solutions, and their dedication to doing one thing well, manufacturing robust, high-quality x-ray machines, has always stood out.”
Hissco’s reputation for building systems that perform reliably in challenging environments also impressed Revell. “From unstable power grids to harsh physical conditions, their machines are built to endure. That speaks volumes about the quality of their engineering.”
The company has retained an experienced and deeply knowledgeable engineering team, something Revell considers a rare asset. “This is a team with over 200 years of combined industry experience. These aren’t just employees, they’re true veterans who understand the nuances of this work.”
Engineering Excellence and Practical Innovation
Revell’s due diligence before joining the company only reinforced his decision. “When I visited their facility, I saw a clear purpose and genuine passion. Their product range, including both single- and dual-view systems, reflects a real understanding of user needs in the field.”
One feature that stood out was Hissco’s CIRTS training system. “It’s not a generic guide. It’s a built-in, operator-focused tool that ensures even short-term staff can rapidly familiarise themselves with the equipment. That’s a huge advantage in high-turnover environments like events or temporary checkpoints.”
He also praised the company’s Assisted Image (AI) technology. “Rather than trying to replace operators, it supports them. It’s intuitive, practical, and keeps the human in control, exactly what’s needed in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations.”
Looking Ahead
Now in post, Revell is focused on reconnecting with former colleagues, forging new partnerships, and building on Hissco’s reputation for technical excellence and reliability.
“You’ll see us becoming more visible, especially on platforms like LinkedIn, where we’ll be highlighting who we’re working with, and the expertise we’re bringing in. This isn’t about trend-chasing, it’s about staying true to what we know works and delivering results where they matter most, such as checkpoints, courthouses, prisons, customs facilities, and more.”
Revell’s appointment signals a strategic step for Hissco International as it strengthens its position in the UK and European markets. “I’m proud to be part of a company that knows exactly what it stands for,” he said. “We’ve stayed true to our roots, and that consistency is what drives long-term relationships and real-world impact.”
